Cheetah Mail - Weekly Update 1.30.26

Cheetah Mail - Weekly Update 1.30.26
Good afternoon, Cherokee families!

What a week it’s been! With no school on Monday or Tuesday and two-hour delays the rest of the week, our adjusted schedule certainly kept us on our toes. I am so incredibly proud of the flexibility our students showed and the dedication of our staff, who truly made the most of every minute we had together.

A special thanks to our staff members who braved the extreme cold each day at arrival and dismissal duty, and our custodial staff who spent countless hours clearing our grounds!  I also want to thank you, our Cheetah families, for hanging in there with us - I know changes to routines can be challenging, and I truly appreciate your patience and support. As we close the book on January and welcome a new month, please take note of the important dates and reminders below:

🎺 Try Band
Try Band is returning to Cherokee on Monday, February 2nd. This opportunity allows our 6th grade students to learn about various instruments they are eligible to play in junior high and try them out.

❤️ Muffins in the Morning
Cherokee PTA is bringing back our family-favorite Muffins in the Morning event. Your student and one (1) important adult are invited to have a nice morning treat in the Cherokee Cafeteria!!  Muffins and drinks will be served for those attending to help jump start your morning. We have three sessions available for the event, broken down by last name. Only one RSVP slot is needed per family, listing the student(s) name in the comment section. Click here to sign up: Cherokee PTA 25/26: Muffins in the Morning 2026.
  • A-G: 7:15 - 7:45 am on Tuesday, February 3rd
  • H-O: 7:15 - 7:45 am on Wednesday, February 4th
  • P-Z: 7:15 - 7:45 am on Thursday, February 5th
🤝 Parent - Teacher Conferences
Our final conference night will take place on Wednesday, February 4th, from 3:30 - 7:00 PM. Families should have already received communication and sign-ups from their child’s teacher with conference details.

🗓️ No School
As a reminder, there is no school Friday, February 13th and Monday, February 16th in observance of President's Day.  Hope you enjoy the four-day weekend!

Posting again from the District:

Erin's Law requires that all public schools implement a prevention-oriented child sexual abuse program. This important initiative aims to educate students on personal body safety and help them understand how to recognize and report any inappropriate behavior.

For the SY25-26 school year, our Erin's Law programming will be delivered as follows:
  • 3-6 Students: The program will be delivered by the school counselor specific to each building. The content is tailored to meet the developmental needs of these age groups.
We understand that some families may have questions or concerns regarding this program. We encourage you to reach out to us if you need further information or if you wish to discuss any aspect of the curriculum.

For families who prefer to opt out of Erin's Law programming, we have provided an opt-out form. This form can be accessed via the link included in this letter and is also available on our school website: Legislative Lessons Opt-Out

We believe that open communication between school and home is essential in ensuring the best possible education and safety for our students. Thank you for your continued support and collaboration.

Sincerely,

Andrea Longworth, Executive Director of Pupil Services
Lori Brown, Executive Director of Curriculum & Instruction
Megan Cameron, Manager of Student Wellness

As always, our AP, Mr. Stapleton, the Cherokee staff, and I appreciate your continued partnership in making Cherokee such a strong and caring school community!  If you have any questions, concerns or good news to pass on please do not hesitate to reach out to us. We love to hear from you!
