Cheetah Mail - Weekly Update 1.23.26

Cheetah Mail - Weekly Update 1.23.26
Happy Friday, Cherokee families!

This week was a little shorter with the observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, but we packed a lot of learning, laughter, and memorable moments into our four days. From classroom activities to school-wide events, our students stayed busy learning, exploring, and having fun. I’m so proud of the energy, creativity, and community spirit I’ve seen!  Here are some of the highlights:

🤝 Hands Against Hunger
Last weekend, Mr. Caulfield invited our 6th grade Student Leadership team and their families to participate in Hands Against Hunger - and we had over 20 volunteers show up! Together, they helped turn hunger into hope by packing rice, fortified soy protein, dried vegetables, and a blend of 21 vitamins and minerals into bags that were then sealed, boxed, and shipped to partners around the world. What an amazing way for our students and families to make a difference in the lives of others!

🐝 Cherokee Spellers S-H-I-N-E
In partnership with the 2026 Scripps National Spelling Bee, we proudly hosted our annual School Spelling Bee on Wednesday - and it was truly a spellbinding event!  A total of 36 spellers representing all grade levels competed across nine exciting rounds. A big congratulations to our top three finishers:

1st-Arshneet Kaur, 6th Grade
2nd-Kevin Richards, 6th Grade
3rd-Ruby Bhandari, 4th Grade

Our first-place finisher will advance to a Regional Qualifier for the opportunity to earn a spot to compete at the National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. We wish Arshneet the best of luck! Thank you again to Mrs. Dailey for serving as our school's Spelling Bee Coordinator.

✴️ Tissue Donations Needed
As cold and flu season continues, we are running low on tissues throughout the building. If you are able to help, we would greatly appreciate donations of tissues to help keep our classrooms stocked and our students comfortable. Tissues may be sent in with your child to give to their homeroom teacher or dropped off in the front office. We appreciate your support and care for our school community!

💌 Thank You for Spreading the Love!
A huge thank you to everyone who has already taken a moment to share kind words for our amazing staff! Your notes of appreciation have truly made a difference and brought smiles to so many faces. (I've even seen them proudly displayed on teacher's doors).

If you haven’t had a chance yet, it’s not too late to give a shout-out. Celebrate a teacher, support staff member, or anyone who makes a positive impact on our students - your words matter! Share your shout-out here: https://forms.gle/gpXka2Br55i5ZUPz5

As always, our AP, Mr. Stapleton, the Cherokee staff, and I appreciate your continued partnership in making Cherokee such a strong and caring school community!  If you have any questions, concerns or good news to pass on please do not hesitate to reach out to us. We love to hear from you!

I hope you have a wonderful weekend! Winter weather is making its way to our area, with colder temperatures and the possibility of significant snowfall. Please bundle up, enjoy the extra coziness, and take care as you spend time with family and friends. Stay warm and stay safe. ❄️
