Happy Friday, Cherokee Families!
Welcome back! I hope everyone had a wonderful Winter Break and enjoyed some special time with family and friends. It’s so great to have our students back in the building as we officially kick off 3rd Quarter and begin the second half of the school year. I’m excited about what lies ahead for our Cheetahs and look forward to finishing the year strong together! I’m also very pleased to welcome back our Specials teachers for third quarter:

🏆 Second Quarter Cheetah Spotlight Celebration
Today we celebrated our Second Quarter Cheetah Spotlight Award recipients with a well-deserved pizza party! This special recognition honors students who were nominated by their teachers for consistently demonstrating positive behavior, leadership, and our school values. It was a fun way to recognize their hard work and celebrate the great choices they make each day. Pictures of the fun are included below. We’re so proud!

As a reminder, second quarter report cards will be posted to HAC at 3 PM on Monday, January 12th. This is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate your child’s growth and accomplishments so far this year and to reflect on goals for the months ahead.

💳 School Fees Reminder
School fees for the 2025–2026 school year are posted in PaySchools. Please note that you must log in through OneLogin to see and select the tab for PaySchools. (Logging in directly through the PaySchools website or using their app will result in an error and prevent access). Fees can be paid in PaySchools using:

A credit card (a 4.5% processing fee applies for payments over $50), or

If you prefer, school fees may also be paid by sending a check made payable to Cherokee Elementary to the school office. Thank you for taking care of this and for your continued support!
🕗Attendance Matters
Each day of attendance makes a difference. We are entering a new year with a big impact. Not only are there academics to focus on as we begin the second semester, but there are also several events planned at school which help to build our students' social skills and make school all the more enjoyable.
DID YOU KNOW? The state average for chronic absenteeism for students (missing 10% or more of instructional time for any reason-excused or unexcused) is just over 25%. Lakota's chronic absenteeism average for the school year is right about 12%. Thank you for helping your child build positive habits—showing up, staying engaged, and ending the semester on a high note! We appreciate our families for supporting learning every day.
❄️🧤Recess / Temperature Reminder
With weather changing from cold to colder, we want to make sure that every student is prepared to not only come to school but stays warm during recess and brain break. If the temperature “feels like 20 or below,” we will make the call to stay indoors but if it “feels like 21 or over,” the students will be going outside. We do have some extra coats for students to borrow if they forgot, but we want to ensure that everyone is prepared and healthy for the cold. This includes gloves, hats and scarves!
