Yesterday marked the final day of another wonderful school year, and what a joyful week it has been at Cherokee! Our hallways have been filled with celebration, reflection, laughter, and so many special memories as we wrapped up the year together. From classroom celebrations and end-of-year traditions to recognizing student accomplishments and cheering on our graduating sixth graders, this week has been a beautiful reminder of what makes our Cherokee community so special.

Dear Cherokee Families,

Happy Friday! What an INCREDIBLE Field Day we had today! ☀️ It was so wonderful to see all of our Cherokee Cheetahs participating, smiling, cheering each other on, and enjoying a day full of fun together. A very special THANK YOU goes out to Mrs. Kitna, Mrs. Argo, all of our amazing parent volunteers who helped make the day such a success. Planning Field Day for an entire school is a tremendous amount of work, and we are incredibly grateful for the time, energy, and care they pour into creating such a memorable experience for our students.

📝 Finishing Strong: OST Complete!
This week we officially wrapped up OST testing, and I know I’ve said it before, but I truly could not be prouder of our students. Their focus, perseverance, and positive attitudes were on full display throughout the testing window. They gave it their all, and that’s something worth celebrating!  Our focus now turns to MAP Testing and as a reminder, the complete schedule can be found below. To help maximize your child’s testing experience, here are a few tips:

✅ Ensure they get a good night’s sleep before each testing day
✅ Provide a healthy breakfast each morning
✅ Offer continued words of encouragement

Students at Cherokee experienced a passport-free trip around the world, celebrating the 62 countries represented by the school's families. From a high-energy Indian dance program to decorated classroom doors and even tikki masala at lunch, this is one celebration you’ll want to see.

Dear Cherokee Families,

Happy Friday! It was another wonderful week here at school filled with learning, connection, and celebration. ✨

Earlier this week, I shared the news of my retirement at the end of this school year after 33 years in Lakota Local Schools and nearly three decades connected to Cherokee Elementary. I want to sincerely thank all of you for the incredibly kind messages and well wishes. Your words have meant more to me than I can adequately express, and I feel incredibly blessed to have spent so many years surrounded by such caring families and students. If you happened to miss the original message, you may view it here. Members of the Cherokee community, including parents, staff and community members, are invited to complete a short online survey about the qualities and characteristics they would like to see in the school’s next principal. The survey is open through March 13.

Happy Friday, Cherokee Families!

We wrapped up a wonderful (and slightly shorter!) week at school thanks to the Presidents’ Day holiday. Even with one less day together, our students packed in plenty of learning - and we certainly enjoyed the sneak peek of spring weather that came along with it! Sunshine and smiling faces made for a great week at Cherokee.

Good afternoon, Cherokee Families!

I hope this special Thursday edition of Cheetah Mail finds you well. This week at Cherokee was a meaningful one for our students. We welcomed visitors from Lakota Plains Junior School, who spent time with our 6th graders sharing the many opportunities that await them next year. While we aren’t quite ready to say goodbye, it was exciting to begin talking about this next chapter and to see our students envision themselves as confident, capable junior high learners.

This week was a little shorter with the observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, but we packed a lot of learning, laughter, and memorable moments into our four days. From classroom activities to school-wide events, our students stayed busy learning, exploring, and having fun. I’m so proud of the energy, creativity, and community spirit I’ve seen!  Here are some of the highlights:

Hi Cherokee Families,

We had another productive week of learning and growth here at school, and it has been great to see so many students engaged in their classrooms and activities. As a reminder, there will be no school for students or staff on Monday, January 19th in observance of the life, leadership, and service of Martin Luther King, Jr.
